The unpopular Truth about “RX”

If you’re following the CrossFit methodology (or the methodology of your gym’s programming) CORRECTLY, RX is relative

It is relative to each person’s individual physical and emotional tolerances, which can also vary day to day based on many factors. It is not as black and white as the number or movement listed on your screen.

Mobility and skill proficiency should also be considered. Just because you “can”, doesn’t mean to “should”.

Each workout you participate in that is led by us, is written with intention and a clearly defined, intended stimulus. Each individual doing the workout should scale the workout appropriately to meet that intended stimulus. Scaling can go in ANY direction – up, down, laterally, etc.

If executed correctly, a workout for time should end with most everyone finishing around the SAME TIME (how often do you see this happen in classes?!), give or take a minute or two.

Scaling is NOT a crime! And it doesn’t make you any less of a person. It means you are self-aware, humble, and are doing what’s BEST for you and with the right intent. It could be the difference in what keeps you moving in health until you’re 90 instead of 60!

If you complete a workout with the “RX” movements, the “RX” weights, the “RX” reps, but did not finish in the intended time domain or stimulus, did you really do it “as prescribed” (RX)? Or did you do an entirely different workout?

A friendly reminder to check your ego at the door and TRUST your coaches. We are here to coach you through what is best for you, based on the information you share with us. The more you communicate, the more we can ensure appropriate scaling in any direction! And the more you can expect RESULTS.

We got you!
